Grey Street, Snow Shower

Designed in the 19th Century by John Dobson, Grey Street was named the finest curved street in Europe by the architectural critic, Sir Nikolaus Pevsner. The painting depicts the stately curve of the street with its stunning architecture. "The Theatre Royal stands out as the jewel on the crown with its fine portico and classic columns", Alan explained.

This is one of Alan’s favourite paintings, "I like it because it is deliberately monochromatic with the little girl, who is my eldest granddaughter Emily, in the bright red coat which provides an important focal point". The gloomy day is lighted up from inside with this colourful splash, while the other figures hide under their umbrella’s rushing through the flurrying snow which creates a movement effect through the painting.
