​Today in 2013, it would be difficult to imagine ourselves without our smartphones and tablets in hand. Technology definitely plays a vital role in the ways we communicate. We are constantly connected to the internet 24 hours a day, whatever the purpose is. It would be hard to deny the fact that the internet and technology have taken over our lives.

As the internet has a great influence upon us, earlier this year we started working on a project exploring the blogging scene in Newcastle as part of our MA Media and Journalism/PR course.  Blogging has been around for about 10 years, with the number of bloggers increasing by the day. Although blogging has evolved in the last few years all over the world, we realised that local bloggers in Newcastle are not given full recognition or support and sometimes are even invisible. As a group of girls that enjoy reading blogs, we felt that this was a perfect opportunity to start a project in which we would look at bloggers in Newcastle.

'NE1 Bloggers' was created to work as a platform that brings together local bloggers and showcases their blogs. Each of them invited us into their world of blogging, to explore the different aspects behind having a blog. Although they all had different stories to convey, the city of Newcastle is what connects all these bloggers together. This project will help bring together not only the local bloggers, but also individuals who enjoy reading blogs, to discover all the different aspects regarding blogging in general and particularly in Newcastle through our website and discussion board provided.

The diverse range of bloggers we met, introduced us to the culture of blogging in Newcastle. Our goal is to give blogger lovers a taste of Newcastle’s uprising blogging scene. Also, encourage people to use the website to share knowledge and experience in regards to blogging, but, most importantly help widen the scope towards the importance of blogging in the city.

Overall, we aim to provide a virtual space for readers to find out about how the city of Newcastle brings together bloggers from various backgrounds and interests. 'NE1 Bloggers' aim was not to promote particular blogs in the city, instead to bring people together of similar interest towards a subject that has not been given enough recognition in Newcastle. We want local bloggers not only to showcase their blogs, but share their ideas and experiences, and most importantly the reasons behind them joining the blogging world.

Through this project, 'NE1 Bloggers' hopes that this website will be an eye-opener towards blogging in Newcastle.
