Peace

The painting is remarkable for its unusual composition that brings together the George and Dragon war memorial in the centre of Old Eldon Square, Emerson Chambers and Grey’s Monument in the city of Newcastle. Alan explained how some people fail to recognise their hometown. Taking uncommon angles, the artist helped to show the beauty of Newcastle's architecture which is sometimes underestimated.
Describing the painting, Alan said ‘the painting is set against the backdrop of a winter sky, indicating the bleakness of war. The inscription of ‘peace’ is a sign of hope which we ought to seek after war.’
