Grey Street Newcastle,

Saturday Morning

This painting is a view of Grey Street from Emerson Chambers Building in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. The detailed piece displays the city as it is waking up in the morning. A windless day in the middle of a sunny September, the atmosphere of the painting, makes it feel like we can hear the noise of the street, cars and musicians. ‘I am concerned about capturing the light and the fleeting moment’, said Alan.

Alan was honoured to enter with this painting to the ‘Show me the Monet’, a programme featured on BBC2. The programme could be seen as an ‘X-Factor’ version for artists. He was chosen between the top 30 artists to showcase ‘Grey Street Newcastle, Saturday Morning’ in front of a panel of three judges from the art industry. Although Alan did not win, he explained that it was a great experience for him: "I am always pleased to take constructive criticism on board".
